Hammond Tactical was founded by Ernesto A. Alcala — Ernie — with a straightforward mission: give responsible firearm owners in Northwest Indiana and the Chicagoland border a trusted, knowledgeable, and fully compliant dealer who puts customers first. Ernie is not just a businessman with an FFL. He is a genuine firearms enthusiast who has spent years studying the industry, learning Indiana, Illinois, and federal firearms law cold, and building relationships with distributors and manufacturers — from the distributor catalog to the SHOT Show floor — to bring the best possible service to every customer who books an appointment.
After building Ernie's Arms Accessories in Oak Lawn, Illinois, Ernie saw the same gap on the Indiana side of the line: big-box retailers offer volume but no attention, and too many small shops run on inconsistent hours or thin knowledge. Hammond Tactical was built around a different philosophy — every customer deserves focused, one-on-one time with a dealer who knows the products, understands the law in both states, and genuinely cares about helping people make the right choice. That is why every interaction here is by appointment. No crowds. No pressure. Just honest, expert guidance.

Hammond Tactical holds a current Type 01 Federal Firearms License, and every transaction is conducted in full compliance with the Gun Control Act of 1968, the Brady Act, Indiana law, and all applicable ATF regulations. Every background check is thorough. Every form is completed properly. There are no shortcuts, and there never will be. He does not push products for margin — he recommends what works for your situation, your budget, and your experience level.

Hammond Tactical was built as the answer to that experience. We are an appointment-based firearms dealer serving Hammond and greater Northwest Indiana. When you book a time with us, you get the whole shop: one licensed dealer, one customer, and however long it takes to get your questions answered properly. No queue forming behind you. No pressure to decide before you're ready.
Where We Work
Our licensed premises sit at 2041 164th Street, Unit C, Hammond, IN 46320 — in Hammond's industrial corridor just off the Borman Expressway (I-80/94), a few minutes from US-41 and the Indiana Toll Road. That puts us within a fifteen-minute drive of Whiting, Highland, Munster, East Chicago, Griffith, and Gary — and within a half hour of most of Lake and Porter County.
Being a border-town shop shapes what we know. Three miles west is Illinois, with one of the most restrictive firearm frameworks in the country. Every week we field calls from Calumet City, Lansing, and Chicago's southeast side, and every week we give the same kind of answer: exact, honest, and grounded in what federal and state law actually permit. What We Sell
Handguns, rifles, and shotguns — in stock in our catalog or special-ordered through a nationwide distributor network. Ammunition in the calibers people actually shoot. Optics, magazines, holsters, cases, and storage from brands we'd put on our own firearms. And for people starting from zero, a first-time buyer appointment that treats you like a future regular, not a mark.
