What an FFL Transfer Is — and Why the Law Requires It
Under the Gun Control Act of 1968, a firearm purchased from an out-of-state seller — including every online gun retailer, auction site, and private out-of-state seller — cannot ship to your front door. It must ship to a licensed dealer (an FFL) in your state of residence. The receiving dealer logs the firearm into their ATF-required acquisition and disposition record (the "bound book"), completes the ATF Form 4473 with you in person, runs the FBI NICS background check, and only then lawfully transfers the firearm to you.

We quote the transfer fee when you contact us to arrange the transfer, before anything ships, and the quote is firm — no add-ons at pickup beyond legally required items. Once your firearm arrives and is logged into our bound book, we contact you the same day to schedule pickup. The pickup appointment itself takes about twenty minutes: inspect your firearm, complete the Form 4473, pass the NICS check, pay the fee, done. Indiana has no state waiting period, so approved buyers leave with their firearm that day.
Indiana Requirements — and the Illinois Reality
For Indiana residents the requirements are simple: a valid government-issued photo ID with your current address and a passed NICS check. No FOID card, no state waiting period, no purchase permit. Illinois residents: a handgun you purchase online cannot transfer through us — federal law requires it to go to an FFL located in Illinois, which then applies Illinois rules (FOID verification, the 72-hour handgun waiting period, and the FTIP check). Is a Transfer Even Your Best Option? Run the Real Math
Before you buy online and arrange a transfer, add up the true landed cost: the online price plus shipping plus the receiving dealer's transfer fee plus the risk of a return hassle if the item arrives damaged or misdescribed. On common defensive pistols and popular rifles, that total frequently lands within a few dollars of a local dealer's out-the-door price — without the wait, and with a local dealer standing behind the sale. Where online genuinely wins is on clearance closeouts, used listings from distant sellers, and models no local distributor stocks. We'll tell you honestly which situation you're in: more than once we've quoted our own price against an online listing and told the buyer to take the online deal. That honesty is why the same buyers come back for their next purchase — and why transfer conversations with us are worth the phone call even when the answer is no.
Timing expectations, stage by stage: confirming acceptance with us takes a day or less; seller shipping speed varies wildly (ask them, not us); once the package arrives, logging it into our bound book happens same-day; and your pickup appointment is usually available within a day or two. The slowest link in almost every transfer is the seller's shipping department — factor that into any deadline you're working against.
